Early records are no longer stored, but the university has grown from an association of scholars in the city of Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, England, probably formed in 1209 by scholars escaping from Oxford after a fight with townspeople there.
University of Oxford and Cambridge, Oxbridge is often called, has had a long history of competition with each other, and is widely regarded as the most elite and prestigious universities in the United Kingdom. Historically, they have produced a number of scientists, writers, and the famous British politician.
Affiliate of the University of Cambridge have won 80 Nobel Prizes, more than any other university in the world.
Of the 80 Nobel Prize winners, 70 had attended Cambridge as an undergraduate student or post-graduate, and not as an "associate" research, "fellow" or a professor (Universita Chicago at number two in the affiliate of the Nobel Prize winner, with 79 people, but only 30 who had studied at the University of Chicago as an undergraduate student or graduate degrees).
Cambridge is a member of the Russell Group (a network of large, research-oriented university Britain), Coimbra Group (an association of leading European universities), and LERU (League of European Research Universities, the League of European Research Universities).
